Joan Shaplin has been practicing physical therapy for over 30 years in a variety of patient care settings. She began at Fletcher Allen Health Care where she remained for 25 years working in acute care medicine, orthopedics, and later in the outpatient department. After her time at FAHC she worked at the Nashville Breast Center and St. Thomas Hospital in Tennessee, and Beeston Hill Rehab in the Virgin Islands before joining All Wellness.
Joan also has over 11 years of specialization in the treatment of women with breast cancer. Her clients have included those who have had swelling following mastectomies, lumpectomies, breast reconstruction, radiation treatment, lymph node removal, surgeries, infections, and trauma to the limbs. She is a lymphedema specialist, certified in The Vodder Technique, a massage method used to drain the lymph pathways. Joan is also certified with the Lymphedema Association of North America.
Most recently she completed the Polestar Pilates rehab training program and is happily integrating the Pilates method into her treatment approaches. “I’ve taken NSAIDS every day for 20 years and since beginning a regular practice of Pilates, I am no longer relying on medication to stay comfortable and active.”
