We strive to treat each patient with dignity, patience, and compassion while being mindful of each individuals values, traditions, and culture. Physical therapy has been a foundational service at All Wellness from the very beginning because we are a movement based facility. Our mission is to be able to provide anyone, at any stage of movement – from injury and pain to advanced fitness – with services appropriate for their level. In order to meet everyone’s needs, physical therapy is a critical aspect of what we offer.
We are dedicated to helping you recover quickly, effectively, and comfortably. All patient types are welcome, but we specialize in the following areas:
Pilates is one of the fastest growing exercises in the world because of the physical fitness benefits it provides of added strength, length, and agility.
The emphasis of Pilates exercise is on strengthening the “core” which consists of a person’s deep abdominal muscles and muscles close to the spine. Pilates also stresses spinal and pelvic alignment, which is critical in helping us to move correctly.
In Pilates-based physical therapy you experience fun ways to learn to move without pain, develop a strong mind-body connection, and avoid movement patterns that lead to poor posture habits, impaired mobility and injury.

1 in every 2 women over 50 will suffer an osteoporosis related fracture of her spine, hip, or wrist. Evidence suggests that an active lifestyle reduces your risk for developing osteoporosis. Engaging in regular weight bearing exercise is one of the best ways to keep your bones strong and healthy.
Avoiding loaded spine flexion activities is an important rule to follow to prevent spine changes such as rounded or hunched back, loss of height and back pain. At All Wellness we often use the Pilates equipment in your physical therapy program to improve your bone density. We emphasize exercises and build a home program that promotes better postural alignment and increased pain-free mobility.
All Wellness also offers Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) comprised of: 1) manual lymphatic drainage massage, 2) multi layer compression bandaging if needed, 3) skin care, 4) education regarding self management and remedial exercise, and 5) elastic compression garment measurement and fitting. Our Physical Therapist, Joan Shaplin, is both Vodder and LANA certified with 11 years of specialization in this area to provide you with comprehensive, caring, treatment.
Foot, ankle, knee, hip and back pain may be caused by a biomechanical imbalance and lead to overuse injuries in runners and people who spend long hours on their feet. Orthotics are often used in physical therapy to address underlying musculoskeletal problems. Shoe inserts frequently decrease pain and help increase mobility and function by maintaining a neutral foot and ankle position.
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams – about the weight of a nickel – practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. By normalizing the environment around the brain and spinal cord and enhancing the body’s ability to self-correct, CranioSacral Therapy is able to alleviate a wide variety of dysfunctions, from chronic pain and sports injuries to stroke and neurological impairment. We have experience treating patients from 6 months to 89 years—this gentle technique is appropriate for all ages!
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.) The use of Myofascial Release allows the practioner to look at each patient as a unique individual. Sessions are one-on-one and will focus on releasing restrictions followed by exploring new patterns of movement in these newly unrestricted areas. MFR sessions will also include a strong focus on self treatment techniques and postural awareness.
Lyme disease is a rising problem throughout the US. In Vermont the rate of Lyme disease has risen from 7 confirmed cases in 1999 to over 500 in 2011. Emelia pioneered Vermont’s first Lyme disease rehabilitation program and now brings these skills to All Wellness. Using the most current research, we will help you return to optimal wellness as quickly as possible using a variety of techniques including gentle strengthening, stretching, endurance training, myofascial release and manual lymphatic drainage. We will ensure that you understand the disease process and self treatment techniques to employ between sessions. Together we will ensure that you return to the life you love!
